Steichen's Sporting Goods was established in 1954 on University Avenue in St Paul, MN.   Located on Rice Street in St. Paul for the past 25 years, Steichen's offers team sales as wells as retail sporting goods.  Current customers include the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Timberwolves and the University of Minnesota.

Gene's Sporting Goods was founded in 1964 by Gene DeSutter.  Started as a hunting and fishing equipment store in Minneota, MN, Gene soon began selling team sports equipment to schools in the area.  In 1994, Steve purchased the business from his father and said goodbye to the hunting and fishing segment.  At that time Gene's Sporting Goods had three employees and called on approximately 60 high schools and colleges.

In 2002 Steve DeSutter purchased Steichen's and formed Great Plains Sports, LLC.  Both companies still operate as separate entities along with the Screen Print Shoppe in Marshall, MN.  The Great Plains family of businesses consists of 20+ employees in three locations with 11 outside salesmen.

In 2008 Great Plains Sports added Wisconsin Sports to the umbrella of companies and are now serving Eastern Wisconsin.

In 2009 Impact Sports in Madison, Wisconsin purchased Great Plains Sports.  The two joined to form Lids Team Sports and service high schools and colleges around the country.  With all the change, Steichen's is still going strong servicing the retail needs of our customers in the Twin Cities.
